The advantage of Vaughan Invisalign Teen with your Thornhill Orthodontist!

DURING THE SENSITIVE TEENAGE YEARS, IMAGE IS EVERYTHING!

At an age when image is so important, the thought of having metal brackets and wires constantly attached to teeth may intensify the already-delicate confidence of today’s teens. But… not to worry! There is a clear alternative to traditional braces! Your Vaughan Orthodontist wants to remind you that Invisalign Teen gives you a whole new way to wear braces for a “clearly” amazing smile!

SO HOW DOES INVISALIGN TEEN WORK, YOU ASK?

Much in the same fashion as Invisalign, but with a few added characteristics tailored specifically to teenagers’ lifestyles. For instance, Thornhill Invisalign Teen is designed with “compliance indicators” that fade from dark to light during the two week period that particular tray is used and once it has faded teens know to change trays. Each aligner comes with up to six free individual replacement aligners in case the original aligner ends up lost or broken. Another big benefit for the patient!

The treatment period for Richmond Hill Invisalign Teen varies from nine to 18 months. If your teen is considering orthodontic treatment, please contact your Vaughan Invisalign Specialist at 905-303-7788 and we’ll answer any questions you may have about Invisalign Teen.

“My son is turning 7 – when should we visit for a consultation?”

Great question! Even though most people think of pre-teens and teens when they think of orthodontics, there are good reasons your child should get an orthodontic evaluation much sooner. The American Association of Orthodontists recommends a check-up with an orthodontic specialist no later than age 7.

Why Your Child Should Get An Orthodontic Check-up No Later Than Age 7:

  1. Orthodontists can spot subtle problems with jaw growth and emerging teeth while some baby teeth are still present.
  2. While your child’s teeth may appear to be straight, there could be a problem that only an orthodontist can detect.
  3. The check-up may reveal that your child’s bite is fine. Or, your Thornhill orthodontist may identify a developing problem but recommend monitoring the child’s growth and development, and then, if indicated, begin treatment at the appropriate time for the child. In other cases, the orthodontist might find a problem that can benefit from early treatment.
  4. Early treatment may prevent more serious problems from developing and may make treatment at a later age shorter and less complicated.
  5. In some cases, your Richmond Hill orthodontist will be able to achieve results that may not be possible once the face and jaws have finished growing.
  6. Early treatment may give your Woodbridge orthodontist the chance to:
    • guide jaw growth
    • lower the risk of trauma to protruded front teeth
    • correct harmful oral habits
    • improve appearance
    • guide permanent teeth into a more favorable position
    • improve the way lips meet
  7. Through an early orthodontic evaluation, you’ll be giving your child the best opportunity for a healthy, beautiful smile.

Because patients differ in both physiological development and treatment needs, your Vaughan orthodontist’s goal is to provide each patient with the most appropriate treatment at the most appropriate time. Call 905-303-7788 to schedule your complimentary consultation today!

Smile Specialists

Smile Specialists - Orthodontists
An orthodontist is to teeth what a cardiologist is to the heart. Orthodontists are highly trained specialists who partner with your dentist to provide you with the best oral health care.

Orthodontists are qualified dentists, who after graduating from dental school, go on to additional full-time education in an accredited orthodontic residency program supervised by orthodontists. That training lasts at least two academic years—sometimes more. By learning about tooth movement (orthodontics) and guidance of facial development (dentofacial orthopedics), orthodontists are the uniquely trained experts in dentistry to straighten teeth and align jaws.

Orthodontists diagnose, prevent and treat dental and facial irregularities. The majority of members of the Canadian Association of Orthodontists (CAO) and American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) limit their practices to orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics. Orthodontists treat a wide variety of malocclusions (improperly aligned teeth and/or jaws). They regularly treat young children, teens and adults.

Selecting an orthodontist who is a member of the CAO or AAO is your assurance that you have chosen an orthodontic specialist: the dental specialist with at least two years of post-doctoral, advanced specialty training in orthodontics in a program accredited by the American or Canadian Dental Association. Specialty education includes the study of subjects in biomedical, behavioral and basic sciences; oral biology; and biomechanics.

Only orthodontists may be members of the Canadian Association of Orthodontists (CAO) and American Association of Orthodontists (AAO). Creating beautiful smiles through orthodontics is their business.

Braces: Myths and Facts

Myths and Facts
MYTH:  Orthodontists are appropriate only for the most challenging and complex orthodontic cases.
FACT:  Orthodontists recognize the difference between a simple case and a complex one. And when a case is challenging, orthodontists know what to do.

MYTH:  My family dentist says he can straighten my teeth.
FACT:  An orthodontist has 2-3 years of specialized training beyond dental school and is a specialist at straightening teeth and insuring proper form and function. A dentist may see a handful of cases a year amid drilling and filling. An orthodontist only practices orthodontics and treats hundreds of patients.

MYTH:  Braces are for kids.
FACT:  One in five orthodontic patients is an adult.

MYTH:  If there was a giant, overhead magnet and someone flipped a switch, people wearing braces would fly out of their chairs and stick to the ceiling.
FACT:  Unlikely, as braces are made from non-magnetic materials.

MYTH:  Orthodontists charge more than general dentists for orthodontic treatment.
FACT:  It's not the same work. The value in seeing an orthodontist for treatment is that the orthodontist is an expert, highly experienced and understands form, function and a wonderful smile
